The arrestees and convicts held in the Van High-Security Prison complained that Halk TV and Tele 1 were removed from the satellite TV list due to “technical failure and incapacity” and the channels were not added to the list despite the prisoners’ requests and event though the channels ranked first in the survey done in the prison.
Prisoners said that the prison administration and the supervisory board referred to these channels as follows: “We prioritize the channels that respect the indivisible integrity of the state with its country and nation, that do not praise or incite terrorism and the do not broadcast in violation of the society’s national and spiritual values, public morals or the protection of family” (October 23).
