Journalist Can Uğur is facing trial on the charge of “publicly disseminating misleading information” (Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code) over a news report regarding claims that exam questions for the High School Entrance Exam (LGS) were leaked in advance. The report, published by Cumhuriyet on 17 June 2025 under the title “Were the futures of 1 million students jeopardized? Claims that LGS questions were shared on WhatsApp before the exam ended,” relayed public doubts about the security of the exam and also included the official statement by the Ministry of National Education (MEB). The first hearing will take place on 13 January 2026 at the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.
