The Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, with the decision dated 14 February 2017,  sentenced BirGün reporter Onur Erem to 11 months imprisonment for “insulting the President of Republic” on the grounds of reporting the results of Google search engine about President Erdoğan. The court sentenced him a judicial fine of 10 thousand 500 TL substituting prison sentence. The Constitutional Court has decided that Article 299 of the Turkish Penal Code is not in conflict with the Constitution.
