DİHA reporter Şerife Oruç, who has been arrested in Mardin E type, has been standing trial for “membership in a terrorist organisation”  at the 2nd High Criminal Court of Batman. She has been released by the court pending trial on July 9, 2018. The trial has been continuing (9 July).

Having been released by the Batman 2nd High Criminal Court for “membership in a terrorist organisation”, she was taken into custody at the gate of Elazığ T type Prison on July 9, 2018. She was later released. Oruç was reportedly detained for an arrest warrant that had not been removed by the 4th Criminal Peace Judgeship of Diyarbakır (10 July).

Ruling to issue an arrest warrant for Oruç on the grounds that she failed to follow judicial control measures imposed on her, the court ruled to send the case file to the prosecution for the preparation of the final opinion and adjourned the trial until May 12 (February 18).

At the 15th hearing on December 15, the court board ruled that official letters should be addressed to Batman Security Directorate to hear Devran Çakır, who made a statement against Oruç, before the court; and to the Diyarbakır Security Directorate to ask whether Oruç participated in the ditch-digging protests in Diyarbakır and whether there were anonymous witness or informant statements about Oruç not found within the scope of the file. The next hearing will be held on March 11 (December 15).

At the 16th hearing of the trial held on March 11, 2021, the court board gave additional time to hear the witnesses. The next hearing will be held on June 26 (March 11).

At the hearing on June 24, 2021, the prosecutor demanded time for the rectification of deficiencies. The court board ruled that a warrant should be issued against the witness who could not be found. The next hearing will be held on November 11 (June 24).

At the hearing held on November 11, 2021, the court board ruled that another written correspondence should be sent so that the anonymous witness could be heard via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS). The next hearing will be held on February 17, 2022 (November 11).

At the hearing held on February 17, 2022, the court board ruled that the statement of the person who gave a witness statement against Şerife Oruç during the investigation process should read as the person could not be heard and a written correspondence should be sent to the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to find out the result of the ongoing investigation against Oruç. The next hearing will be held on March 24 (February 17).

At the hearing held on November 29, 2022, the court ruled that the execution of the warrant issued against Şerife Oruç should be awaited. The next hearing will be held on March 3, 2023 (November 29).

In the 23rd hearing held on March 9, the hearing was postponed to May 11 deciding to wait for the outcome of the investigation carried out in Diyarbakır and the execution of the warrant should be awaited (March 13).
