Nokta magazine was shut down due to its cover entitled “November the 2nd: The beginning of Turkey’s civil war”.Its directors, including the chief editors Murat Çapan and Cevheri Güven were sentenced to 22 years and 6 months of imprisonment in the case in which they were being charged with “provoking the citizens to engage in armed revolt against the Government of the Turkish Republic” at the 14th High Criminal Court in Istanbul.
The court acquitted them on the charges of “propagandising for a terrorist organisation”.
The manager for Nokta Magazine, Murat Çapan was arrested on May 24, 2017 by the 14th High Criminal Court in Istanbul.

Murat Çapan, managing editor of Nokta magazine, was released on 14 January.
Çapan had been sentenced to 22 years and 6 months in prison on charges of “inciting the public to armed uprising against the Government of the Republic of Turkey” over a 2015 cover of Nokta that depicted President Erdoğan taking a selfie at a soldier’s funeral. He was captured in Edirne in May 2017 while allegedly attempting to cross into Greece. For the same publication, he had previously been arrested and released after 57 days in detention.
