The editor-in-chief for daily Yeni Asya, Kazım Güleçyüz and cartoonist İbrahim Özdabak have been standing trial for “propagandising for a terrorist organisation [FETÖ]” at the 29th High Criminal Court in İstanbul. Güleçyüz was allegedly “successively propagandising for a terrorist organisation” and supporting Gülen over his tweets (1 August).
On the trial held at 24 September 2019, the court accepted the additional time request of defence lawyers for their defence on the merits of the case. Next hearing will be held on 23 January 2020.
At the last hearing held on 23 January 2020, the Istanbul 29th High Criminal Court found both journalists guilty for propagandizing for a terrorist organization and sentenced Güleçyüz for 1 year 8 months of imprisonment and Özdabak for 1 year 6 months and 22 days of imprisonment.
