Yeliz Koray, the managing editor of the local newspaper Kocaeli Koz was on trial for “inciting the public to hatred and enmity” through her article, which concerned the July 15, 2016 coup attempt, and was published on the first year anniversary of the attempted coup in 2017.

Koray was sentenced by the 2nd Criminal Court of First instance in Kocaeli to one year and three months of imprisonment on April 5 for her article.

The execution of the sentence was suspended due to Koray not having a previous criminal record.
