AFP Agency photo and video reporter Eylül Deniz Yaşar, who was covering the Newroz celebrations held in Yenikapı, Istanbul, was detained on March 17. Yaşar was released in the evening after a medical check. The journalist, who was detained for six hours, said that the police beat her and verbally assaulted her by “you were not tortured. What do the Kurds have in this country? The Jews were like you. What did they do to them in Germany? It all became soap. Pray that we do not make you soap like the Jews…” (March 17).
