A lawsuit was filed against Yeniçağ newspaper’s Managing Editor Erdem Avşar due to the news titled “27., 28., 29. ve 30. tweetlerin içindeki sır belli oldu: Sedat Peker, Ali Fuat Taşkesenlioğlu’nun Arkasındaki İsmi Açıkladı” published on the newspaper’s website on August 27, 2022. An indictment was prepared for the crimes of “ ” ( Article 267) and “insulting” (Article 125) upon the complaint of Turkuvaz Media Deputy Chairman of the Board Serhat Albayrak.

The first hearing was held on March 28 (March 28th).

The second hearing was held on September 14 at the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance. In his opinion, the prosecutor requested a sentence for the crimes of “public insult” and “defamation” in a chain reaction. The case was adjourned until January 23, 2024 (September 14).

The Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced Erdem Avşar to 1 year and 15 days in prison for the charge of defamation; and acquitted him of the charge of insult (March 27).
