Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Ahmet Kanbal was acquitted in the trial where he was facing the charge of “insulting a public official due to his or her duty” against Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu. Following his acquittal, a new investigation was launched against Kanbal for “provoking the public to hatred and hostility” over his news and social media posts. With his statement taken at the Mardin Provincial Security Directorate as part of the investigation launched by the Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Kanbal said that he was being marked as a target because of his dissident identity (March 10).
